Abstract

Climate Migrations: An Emergency in Silent Europe

The present contribution aims to critically analyze the shortcomings of the European Union legislation on climate migration, in the attempt to propose possible solutions. In particular, after indicating a summary classification of the various types of climate migrants on the basis of the specific characteristics and differences compared to migrants fleeing their country because they are persecuted pursuant to the 1951 Geneva Convention on the status of refugees and migrants for work reasons, it is highlighted that starting from the birth of CEAS and up to the New Pact on Migration and Asylum of 2024, EU law has not provided for any specific regulatory framework for environmental migrants.
